Penny White

Penny came to the Bar in 2018, having worked for the previous 18 years as a solicitor in criminal law. She was the first woman to be accredited as a specialist in criminal law in Queensland. 

Penny practises in criminal law, particularly criminal defence.  She appears in trials, sentences and applications in the Supreme Court, District Court and Magistrates Court, as well as appeals in the Queensland Court of Appeal. In 2024, Doyles Guide listed Penny as one of the recommended leading junior counsel in criminal law in Queensland.  

As well as criminal matters, Penny also accepts briefs in professional disciplinary matters and regulatory prosecutions.  She also appears in inquiries and inquests.  In 2016, she was appointed Counsel Assisting in the Commission of Inquiry into Organised Crime in Queensland.

Penny was a member of the Queensland Law Reform Commission from 2017 to 2023 and was involved in numerous commission reviews which have impacted the law in Queensland, including the Termination of Pregnancy review and the Voluntary Assisted Dying review.
