Bilal is a highly regarded barrister with specialist expertise in employment, industrial, and work health and safety law. He also maintains a strong practice in anti-discrimination and restraint of trade matters. Recognised in The Legal 500 and Doyle’s Guide, Bilal is known for his technical excellence, strategic thinking, and measured advocacy. Since being called to the Bar in 2014, he has acted in complex, high-profile litigation across multiple jurisdictions, including the Federal Court of Australia, the Federal Circuit and Family Court, the Supreme Court of NSW, and various industrial tribunals. His matters have often contributed to the development of the law in his areas of specialisation.

Bilal has represented many of Australia’s largest corporations, employer associations, and government bodies. He works closely with instructing solicitors and brings a deep understanding of his clients’ commercial and legal drivers, enabling him to develop and execute effective litigation strategies. Prior to the Bar, he was Special Counsel at Ashurst, and also practised at PwC Legal. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy) from the University of Sydney. Bilal regularly speaks at legal and judicial conferences on diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness in the courtroom.
